Seed Ticks

MAYBE the mystery is solved. Seed ticks... which are very VERY tiny baby ticks... are making an unusual late Summer appearance. The two girls who just moved to Connecticut are proof of that. Over the weekend their new mom found them scratching like crazy and when she started exploring their coats she found a whole lot of little dots on their skin, a few were small freckle size, but most barely visible. Usually, seed ticks come out/hatch/whatever in the Spring after a week or so of unseasonably warm weather. I didn't see any this year, but the last week or two, I've scratched several a day off my skin. Since I wasn't seeing them on the dogs and no one was particularly itchy, I did not apply Frontline. BIG mistake. The last three pups to leave here all had some on them. Clooney, who roomed with those puppies, has a couple on her. Peri, who is clipped very short and also was in with the puppies, has none. Frontline WILL kill the baby ticks the same as it does older ones, so EVERYBODY in the house has been treated with it. Everybody except me. All I can do is continue to scratch them off.

So the cheyletiella is probably not the problem. However, I am sending ivomectin to everyone who asked for some. It won't hurt to use it.

And if you still have any concerns, you can pick up some flea/tick shampoo with PYRETHRIN which is what we used to use to "control"  those critters before Advantage and Frontline came along. The good thing about pyrethin is it gets other little unwanted bugs as well. Since pyetc is no longer the treatment of choice and the once a month topicals do not kill anything but fleas and ticks, other pests are making a comeback.

Reservation list
The September litter reservation list is full. If you missed out, do not despair. There will be unreserved pups available. Of course, having just stated that as a fact... like I had control of the numbers situation... there will only be 4 pups!

This litter is a repeat of the one that gave me Cotton. Don't know if I mentioned that before.

Reservation list info

Just a note... the reservation list is open for Emy's litter only. I have worked on the website, hoping to make that clear. Because of the coloring of her last litter, I have a lot of interest in Cotton's pups but it's too soon to know if she's even pregnant. And, truthfully, Emy is just as likely to have mostly light colored babies... after all, Cotton is an Emy (& Sparky) baby!
A long time ago, a wise breeder told me
"if you particularly like the looks of a specific dog, don't breed to it or get a pup from it, but get a pup from its parents."
And that's the way it usually works!

Brogue's Courting
Brogue is going to meet a new girl friend this weekend. A SCWT. He seems to be getting somewhat picky in his middle age, so we'll have to see how they get along. IF they do get along, I plan to take a male pup as the stud fee. I still need a replacement guy around here and who better than the original fellow?
Son of Brogue, gives new meaning to S.O.B.!

Photo Time!

Claudia sent this shot of her and Bingo. He is the black and tan pup from Di/Brogue's last litter. She was originally looking for a "bigger" dog but says she's found she still has a lot of dog on the end of the lead!

I've Been Fooled Before BUT...

the reservation list is open for Di and Brogue's litter. I'm about as sure as I can be at this stage... almost 6 weeks into the pregnancy... that Diamond is "with pup."

So here's the deal... first, I accept NO money EVER until I've approved a family for a puppy AND we are in agreement on the warranty/contract. So don't just drop a check in the mail and think that's going to do it. Second, almost everybody who has already been in touch wants a female. I'd love to be able to accommodate everyone but that ain't gonna happen. It's entirely possible for all the pups to be girls... a few years back, Diamond had 6 boys out of 6 pups... but it's not likely. I am planning to keep a girl (if there's a non-blond one) and Marna has first pick of the girls. So if you are dead set on a female, do NOT ask to get on the reservation list. I will not refund your reservation fee if you want to back out because only males are available when it comes time for you to pick. Wait until the litter arrives and see if there are females available. IF you don't care which gender you get or if you prefer a male, fine. Send in a reservation.

Questions? As always, feel free to ask just about anything (preferably something that has to do with dogs.)

Hips!

Like mother and father, like daughter... Emy's hip results are back and she, like the rest of the family, got a "good." OFA called me a couple weeks ago, when they first got the x-rays, to verify her "breed." Apparently she is the first Whoodle they've done and the lady got a kick out of the name. However, the paperwork states "hybrid" under the breed heading. I'm going to check Keogh's and see if hers does the same or if she's listed as a Goldendoodle.

Puppy Watch
Russell and his family are breathlessly waiting for Chauncey to have her puppies. They're hoping they arrive before they leave for the annual month long visit to the coast... and I'd like to see them before they go as well. These pups will definitely be well traveled AND well socialized before they're even weaned!

Big Announcement Coming Up
If you're interested in Diamond and Brogue's pups and haven't yet sent me the info I requested or haven't gotten a copy of my contract, you need to get it done right away. I'm taking only 4 reservations... WHEN the list opens REAL SOON.
